Ten African soccer giants shall compete over the next five days for the five spots reserved to Africa for the FIFA 2022 World Cup jamboree billed for December 2022 in Qatar. Today Friday March 25, 2022 shall witness the following schedules:
Egypt vs Senegal
Mali vs Tunisia
Ghana vs Nigeria
Cameroon vs Algeria
DRC v Morocco
Will the teams hosting the first league progress or will the second leg hosts carry the day?
– Egypt will seek a revenge from the last African Cup of Nations where Senegal beat them at the finals after penalty shootouts. How large a margin can they beat current champions will determine if they can pull this one. Senegal playing at home in the return leg may prove too much of a miracle for Egypt to pull.
– Mali may repeat their feat against Tunisia like they did at the just ended continental jamboree in Cameroon. And will need just a draw in Tunis next Tuesday.
– The Ghanaian national team has struggled recently to impress despite their great talent pool. They need to beat Nigeria today in order to have any chances. If Nigeria succeeds to pull a draw in Ghana, then they have a better chance of beating the Black Stars in Nigeria on Tuesday.
– Cameroon needs to beat Algeria today. The Algerian team considered favorites at the last AfCON put up a very dismal performance and got eliminated quite early and might seek to burnish their image and shock Cameroon at home.
– DRC might be the outsider to this year’s competition and could prevail over Morocco and return to enjoy the global stage since their last appearance in 1974 as the first country in Sub Saharan Africa to qualify for the World Cup. Matches CAF WCQ (1)
